‘Nighty-Night in Music City

By Laura Daily, July & August 2006

Got a hankerin’ to explore George Jones’s Nashville? Here are three hotels that hit all the right notes.

Note: Room rates are double occupancy and vary by season.

Living large is easy at Gaylord Opryland Resort, a must-see architectural icon on the outskirts of town. Hotel rooms surround three indoor gardens, the largest of which spans almost five acres and even boasts a river complete with passenger-carrying flatboats. Packages with add-ons such as Grand Ole Opry tickets and a luncheon cruise on the General Jackson showboat are your best deals ($99 and up; 888-999-6779).

Loews Vanderbilt Hotel celebrates Music City from the time you walk in the door. Punch in a Faith Hill or Dolly Parton tune on the lobby jukebox. Enjoy live performances in drink, the hotel's piano bar. Or check out the display case housing memorabilia from the Country Music Hall of Fame ($169 and up; 615-320-1700).

With its stained glass lobby ceiling, marble staircases, and Russian walnut paneling, The Hermitage Hotel defines luxury. Built in 1910, this Beaux Arts structure sits across from the state-capitol building. Afternoon cider and cookies and the services of a bath concierge add up to a pamper-filled stay. Don't miss the autographed photo of singing cowboy Gene Autry checking in with his horse Champion on the hotel's lower level ($219 and up; 888-888-9414).
