Sites to See: Stem Cells
|
National Institutes
of Health
Stem Cell Information from NIH will get you quickly up to speed. The site includes
a glossary to acquaint you with the scientific terms, a clearly written description
of what stem cells are and where they come from, and an optimistic look at how
stem cell research may help discover new ways to treat disease.
Alliance for Aging Research
Finding the fountain of youth is an eternal quest. The folks here are on top
of it all, from stem cell research to what's being discovered every day about
the aging process.
American
Association for the Advancement of Science
In conjunction with the Institute for Civil Society, AAAS put together a report
and recommendations in 1999 that addressed how to balance the promotion of patient
welfare, social good, scientific freedom and responsibility, informed public
discussion, and public accountability of scientists and research institutions
while respecting diverse religious, philosophical, and secular belief systems.
National Right to Life Committee
The site clearly spells out the group's opposition to any research involving
the destruction of human embryos. It provides links to legislative updates on
subjects such as abortion, the RU-486 pill, euthanasia, campaign finance reform,
and other controversial issues. You can check out legislative voting records,
read NRLC's views on the latest news, and sign petitions online.
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
Check out the group's opinions about stem cell research on this site.
