About the Book

With honesty and humor, bestselling author and social commentator Sara Davidson (Loose Change, the book that defined boomer angst in the 1970s) examines the challenges boomers face as they move into their 50s and 60s in her new book, Leap! What Will We Do with the Rest of Our Lives? (Random House). Confronted daily by reminders that we're not as young as we once were, some of us may find ourselves feeling "stripped of our relevance, our primacy," says Davidson.

Facing multiple blows herself—the man she expected to be with for the rest of her life abruptly left her, she realized her long career as a successful television writer and author was waning, and the youngest of her children left home for college—Davidson wonders: "What am I supposed to do for the next thirty years? I've raised my kids, written bestsellers, had deep love.... Why am I still here?"

With her trademark keen eye and flair, she looks both within herself and to others of her generation to find some interesting answers about finding new purpose. She sits down to talk with the well-known (Carly Simon, Tom Hayden, Jane Fonda, Dr. Andrew Weil) and the not so well-known (doctors, writers, teachers, spiritual leaders, and friends). What she gives us in the end are not only real-life examples of people who are successfully making the "leap" to the next phase of life but solid advice on to how to make that transition ourselves.
